Odalisque Definition
ODALISQUE: A slave-woman who is a member of an oriental harem, especially one in the harem or seraglio of the sultan of Turkey. The word is the French adaptation of the Turkish odaliq, formed from odah, chamber or room in a harem. Or A slave-woman who is a member of an oriental harem, especially one in A female slave or concubine in the Sultan’s seraglio or a Turkish harem; one of the ladies of the harem, of whom the Sultan has personal knowledge.

Can anybody tell me who's the artist of this great painting with the three young women? And maybe the date of execution? Would be really great! Thx
ReplyDeleteI have this paintings attributed either to Vicente Navarro y Romero (Spanish, 1888-1979) or José Navarro Llorens (Spanish, 1867-1923) under the title" The Slave Market", I doubt this since it is signed J. Navarro so it may belong to Jose Navarro LLorens ( but the painting style is different) I'll try to find out about it.
